Gorilla Tutorial: Which Scissors for Cutting Dyneema / HMPE?

Dyneema / HMPE is an exceptional fibre: lightweight, hydrophobic and incredibly strong.
But this performance has a downside… ✂️ it is almost impossible to cut with standard scissors.

🔍 The Gorilla Ropes test

In this video, we put three types of scissors to the test on Dyneema / HMPE braid used for technical ropes:

1️⃣ Office scissors → the braid slips and cutting is virtually impossible.
2️⃣ Serrated DIY scissors → they eventually cut through, but the fibres are crushed and frayed.
3️⃣ Special scissors for technical fibres → a clean, sharp cut with no fraying!

⚙️ Why the right scissors make all the difference

Dyneema / HMPE fibre is extremely slippery.
An unsuitable blade:

• slips and crushes the fibre,

• does not produce a clean cut,

• makes whipping and splicing more difficult.

💡 Scissors with sharp micro-serrated blades provide a precise cut without damaging or fraying the braid.

The right tool is essential for clean, precise and durable ropework.
