All-purpose - Halyard / Mainsheet - HMPE CORE + POLYESTER COVER - Ø 6 to 18 mm
Halyard / mainsheet – HMPE core + polyester cover
This double braid halyard / sheet rope combines an HMPE core with a polyester cover to deliver very low elongation, excellent abrasion resistance and long-lasting durability.
Flexible and lightweight, it is perfectly suited to running rigging and to manoeuvres requiring precision, stability and reliability.
Highlights:
The combination of the polyester cover and the HMPE core provides excellent stability under load and very good long-term durability.
The HMPE core is an excellent alternative to Dyneema ropes, offering a very good performance-to-price ratio for cruising and cruiser-racing.
Use:
A versatile rope, ideal for running rigging: halyard, mainsheet, genoa sheet, downhaul.
Construction:
Outer cover: braided, 24 strands, polyester.
Core: long-pitch braided, 12 strands, made from HMPE fibre (high modulus polyethylene).
Ø 6 to 18 mm.

What diameter should you choose for a halyard or sheet?
The diameter of a halyard or a polyester-covered HMPE sheet mainly depends on three factors. This type of rope is often chosen by sailors looking for an alternative to Dyneema ropes with a polyester cover.
- the load generated by the sail (sail area and load in the line),
- the diameter accepted by clutches and blocks,
- the handling comfort on winches and in the hand.
Thanks to its very low elongation, a rope with an HMPE core often allows the use of a slightly smaller diameter than a 100% polyester rope, while maintaining excellent strength.
Advice: for accurate sizing, it is recommended to check the halyard working loads and the specifications of the rope clutches on board.

FAQ – HMPE halyard and sheet with polyester cover
Why choose a halyard with an HMPE core?
The HMPE core offers very low elongation and excellent mechanical strength. It improves trimming precision and limits deformation under load.
What is the difference between HMPE and Dyneema?
Dyneema is a brand name for HMPE. HMPE ropes offer similar performance with excellent value for money for cruising or cruiser-racing.
Can this rope be used for sheets?
Yes. The polyester cover provides good abrasion resistance and excellent handling, making it very well suited to sheets.
What is the difference compared with a 100% polyester rope?
A rope with an HMPE core stretches much less than a polyester rope. It allows more precise trimming and maintains sail tension more effectively.
