This option allows you to choose the termination for a 3-strand rope.

Depending on your setup, we can add a Dyneema whipping, create a spliced eye or produce a spliced eye with thimble fitting. These finishes provide a ready-to-use rope tailored to your boat and installation.

This service is available exclusively for the compatible 3-strand ropes listed below.

Compatible 3-strand ropes

3-strand polyamide mooring line
Thanks to its elasticity, polyamide effectively absorbs the shock loads caused by the movement of the boat, wind and waves. It is particularly suitable for making strong mooring lines that cushion sudden loads.

3-strand polyester mooring line
Polyester offers good resistance to chafe and UV exposure, along with excellent long-term stability. Less elastic than polyamide, it is suitable for mooring lines and installations where greater length stability is required.

Traditional-look 3-strand polypropylene rope
Lightweight, buoyant and non-water-absorbent, this rope has a traditional appearance. It is particularly suitable for classic boats, protective applications, nautical decoration and installations requiring a floating rope.

Mechanical properties and applications vary according to the material. Choose the rope and diameter suited to the loads and environmental conditions of your installation.

Available termination options

Dyneema whipping
This finish secures the end of the rope and prevents the strands from unravelling. It is suitable when the end needs to remain free, be secured with a knot or be made fast directly to a cleat.

Plain spliced eye
The splice forms a loop directly in the rope without using a knot. It allows the rope to be placed quickly over a cleat, bitt, bollard or another attachment point. When correctly made, a splice retains more of the rope’s strength than a knot and creates a clean, durable termination.

Spliced eye with thimble fitting
The thimble selected by the customer is fitted inside the spliced eye to maintain its shape and protect the rope against chafe and crushing. This finish is suitable for connecting the rope to a shackle, chain, ring or another attachment point.

The thimble is not included in the price of this service. It must be added separately to the basket in a size compatible with the rope diameter.

Choosing the right thimble

Nylon thimble
Lightweight and corrosion-resistant, the nylon thimble protects the inside of the eye without adding a metal component. It is suitable for installations requiring a lightweight and economical solution.

Stainless-steel thimble
The more rigid stainless-steel thimble provides excellent protection against crushing and chafe. It is particularly suitable for heavily loaded connections involving a shackle, chain or metal ring.

Choose a thimble that matches the rope diameter and add it to the basket with the splicing service. We will fit it directly into the eye when making the splice in our workshop.

Important: this service must be ordered with one of the compatible 3-strand ropes. The termination is made directly in our workshop before shipping.

For each splice, add 1 metre to the required usable length of rope. For example, to obtain a finished rope approximately 12 m long with a spliced eye, order 13 m of rope.

If you require a splice at both ends, order two splicing services and add 2 metres to the required usable length. Please also specify the internal dimensions of each eye in the order comments.

Frequently asked questions

Which ropes are compatible with this service?

This service is compatible with our 3-strand polyamide mooring line, our 3-strand polyester mooring line and our traditional-look 3-strand polypropylene rope.

What is the difference between a plain eye and an eye with a thimble?

A plain eye remains flexible and is particularly suitable for placing the rope over a cleat, bitt or bollard. A thimble maintains the shape of the eye and protects the rope when it is connected to a shackle, chain, ring or another metal fitting.

Why choose a splice instead of a knot?

A splice forms a compact loop directly in the rope and retains more of its strength than a knot. It also avoids creating a bulky termination at the end of the rope.

Is the thimble included in the price of the splice?

No. The price of the service includes making the splice and fitting the thimble. The nylon or stainless-steel thimble must be added separately to the basket in a size compatible with the rope diameter.

Should I choose a nylon or stainless-steel thimble?

A nylon thimble is lightweight, economical and corrosion-resistant. A stainless-steel thimble is more rigid and provides better resistance to crushing for heavily loaded connections involving a shackle, chain or metal ring.

How do I choose the correct thimble size?

The thimble must match the diameter of the rope ordered. Select the appropriate diameter directly on the nylon or stainless-steel thimble product page.

What size will the eye be?

We make the eye to the internal length you specify. Please provide this measurement in the order comments. Contact us before ordering if you require a particularly large eye or a special configuration.

Why do I need to add 1 metre of rope per splice?

Making the eye requires additional rope to form the loop and gradually tuck the strands back into the rope. This metre must be added to the required usable length.

How do I order a splice at both ends?

Order two splicing services and add 2 metres to the required usable length. Specify the internal dimensions of each eye in the order comments.

Can this service be ordered separately?

No. This option must be ordered with one of the compatible 3-strand ropes. The termination is made directly onto the rope before shipping.
