More efficient than Dyneema SK78 at the same diameter, it is particularly suited to highly loaded applications such as load-bearing systems, halyards, spinnaker guys, soft loops, lashings and textile rigging systems.
Available from Ø 2 to Ø 12 mm.

Where the braid is exposed to friction, we recommend protecting it locally with a suitable cover:
- Dyneema protective cover: for reinforcing areas exposed to chafe, particularly around sheaves and contact points.
- Technora protective cover: particularly suitable for areas exposed to high friction and heat.
Important when used as a halyard: an uncovered Dyneema SK99 hollow braid is not designed to be held directly in a conventional jaw-type rope clutch. For this type of setup, we recommend using a Constrictor textile rope clutch, designed for uncovered high-performance ropes.
Construction
12-strand Dyneema SK99 hollow braid, polyurethane-coated to protect the fibres and reduce fraying.
During manufacturing, a heat-stretching process stabilises the rope, increases stiffness and significantly reduces elongation under load.
HMPE, Dyneema SK99 or Technora: which braid should you choose?
These three braids meet different requirements. The choice depends mainly on load, required stretch, creep, chafe and the type of installation.
Not all HMPE braids are equal. Rope performance depends not only on the fibre used, but also on its construction, braiding, coating and manufacturing process. Gorilla Ropes HMPE braid is therefore a technical solution in its own right and should not be considered equivalent to a generic HMPE braid.
Gorilla Ropes HMPE hollow braid
A versatile solution offering an excellent balance of strength, low stretch, low weight and cost. Particularly suitable for ropework, lashings, textile loops, lacing and a wide range of textile rigging applications.
Dyneema SK99 hollow braid
The preferred option where very high strength at reduced diameter, very low stretch and excellent stability under load are required. It allows the diameter or weight of a system to be reduced while maintaining a high load capacity.
Technora hollow braid
Technora is particularly suitable where the system is exposed to high temperatures, heavy chafe or a high load maintained over a long period. Its very low creep makes it particularly relevant for certain bobstays, bowsprit stays and structural systems under continuous tension.

FAQ – Dyneema SK99 hollow braid
What is the difference between Gorilla Ropes HMPE braid and Dyneema SK99?
Both use fibres from the high-modulus polyethylene family, but they do not meet exactly the same requirements. The Gorilla Ropes HMPE hollow braid offers an excellent balance for a wide range of ropework and textile rigging applications.
SK99 is particularly relevant where greater strength or stiffness is required for a given diameter, or where the aim is to minimise both stretch and line diameter.
It is also important not to compare fibres alone: construction, braiding, coating and the manufacturing process all have a direct influence on the final performance of the rope.
What is the difference between Dyneema SK78 and SK99?
SK99 has a higher modulus and higher strength than SK78. At the same diameter, it therefore provides greater strength and lower stretch. It is particularly suitable for highly loaded applications or where a reduced diameter is required.
Can this braid be spliced?
Yes. Its 12-strand hollow construction makes it easy to create splices, loops and various textile rigging systems. The bury length must be adapted to the rope diameter and the type of splice being made.
Does Dyneema SK99 need protection against chafe?
Yes, when the rope works through cleats, rope clutches, winches, sheaves or other high-friction areas. A suitable protective cover helps protect the fibres while retaining the performance of the Dyneema core.
Can this braid be used as a halyard?
Yes. Its very low stretch and high strength make it an excellent solution for high-performance halyards.
An uncovered Dyneema SK99 hollow braid is, however, not suitable for direct use in a conventional jaw-type rope clutch. To retain a single-braid construction, we recommend using a Constrictor textile rope clutch.
Areas exposed to chafe can also be protected with a Dyneema protective cover or a Technora protective cover, depending on the application.
When should Technora be chosen instead of Dyneema SK99?
The Technora hollow braid is particularly relevant when the rope is exposed to high temperatures, heavy chafe or a load maintained over a long period.
Technora has very low creep and is therefore particularly well suited to certain structural applications that remain under continuous or prolonged tension.
Dyneema SK99 also offers significantly improved creep performance compared with earlier Dyneema grades such as SK78, while retaining its main advantages: very high strength, very low weight and very low stretch.
The choice between the two therefore depends less on an overall performance hierarchy than on the type of load and operating conditions.
How do I choose the correct diameter?
The diameter should be selected according to working load, required strength, safety factors and the deck hardware being used. If in doubt, we can help you size the rope for your specific setup.
